I've recently started continuing education with the Vegan Mastery Program from the Vegetarian Health Institute and I came across an interesting article which made me rethink my 'healthy junk food' eating.
So many of us who claim to eat 'healthy' still eat whole grain pastas, organic chips, packaged juices, 'alternative' ice cream and 'healthy' not-butter but how is this healthy when we know they are still altered beyond their whole form, powdered, processed and not fresh?
As a species, we're meant to absorb nutrients from whole, unadulterated foods, "yet food
manufacturers have convinced us that fractured and processed foods are “health foods” says Trevor Justice, author of 'Supercharge Your Health Raw'.
Now, I'm all for moderation but this information has me rethinking the frequency of my indulgences. When I return to eating from this Juice Cleanse, I will try the 5 day plan. If I indulge in something, I shall not repeat it within the following five days.
Who ever told you that the bamboo is more beautiful than the oak, or the oak more valuable than the bamboo? Do you think the oak wishes it had a hollow trunk like this bamboo? Does the bamboo feel jealous of the oak because it is bigger and its leaves change color in the fall? The very idea of the two trees comparing themselves to each other seems ridiculous, but we humans seem to find this habit very hard to break. Let's face it, there is always going to be somebody who is more beautiful, more talented, stronger, more intelligent, or apparently happier than you are. And conversely, there will always be those who are less than you in all these ways. The way to find out who you are is not by comparing yourself with others, but by looking to see whether you are
fulfilling your own potential in the best way you know how.

On my Facebook page called Wellness by Mother Nature, there has been much discussion on the comparison of Organics vs. Conventional after I posted a couple pictures comparing the nutritional content between them. Somebody requested more information so I decided to blog about it . Take a look at what I've found thus far...
This applies to ALL non organic produce. Look at the sticker on produce... 4 digit codes starting with a “3″ or “4″ is produce that is conventionally grown. This means that this produce was sprayed with weed killers and chemical pesticides. 5-digits starting with “8″ is produce that was genetically modified (human manipulation of the genes to produce a larger, brighter and easier to grow crop). This produce may have been chemically treated. 5-digits that start with “9″ is the produce raised organically. You can be sure that this produce was not treated by the growers. However, these codes are according to the way they were GROWN and not the way they may have been shipped. Even organics in supermarkets may have something chemical sprayed on them post growing to keep them looking fresh by the time they reach the consumer. So always wash your organics but also try buying locally where the food doesn't have to transit so far to get to you.

Certified Holistic Health and Nutrition Practitioner, Stephanie Austin, was guided into holistic living in 2002 when she was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis, an uncommon autoimmune disease affecting the skin and muscle.
Opting for education rather than medication, Austin enrolled in a Holistic Health Practitioner program in 2004 after realizing she'd been gifted with disease so that she may learn to heal herself and later teach others to do the same.
Since her education, Austin has released over 60 pounds and conquered years of junk food addiction through holistic healing and nutrition techniques that she now passes onto others through her business, Wellness by Mother Nature.
Austin has been the Director of Education and Board Member for the nonprofit organization, The Wellness Kitchen. She is the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Graduate Award from www.ACHS.edu.
Austin is an author, coach and speaker who empowers people on the healing value of nutrition and the innate self-healing abilities of a body in balance.
She has helped hundreds of people achieve balance through methods such as meditation, herbs, movement, supplements, aromatherapy, homeopathy, nutrition, mind-body connection, energy healing and by closely listening to the needs of her clients.
