Dear disease and injury, I am grateful for the journey.
10 years ago, this month, I broke my back in four places and spent Christmas in the hospital. More importantly, over the past 15 years, I've gone from 199 pounds, addicted to junk food and suffering so much inflammation I couldn't take my own socks off ... to getting a degree in holistic medicine, going vegetarian, raw vegan, juice cleansing over 300 days, practicing yoga, hiking, meditating, walking around over 60 pounds lighter, and living life to the fullest.
All that I have come to learn, both in my personal journey with holistic health, from my hundreds of clients' journeys, and from my education in holistic medicine, I share with you in my new 6-week Restoring Wellness program.
---- ---- ---- ---- "I grew up in your typical Standard American Diet (SAD) home eating some of the best American comfort food and spending my allowance on junk food, donuts and soda. Now, don't get my wrong, Mom made everything from scratch, including bread, biscuits, gravy, home-raised pork, chickens, eggs and the works. I didn't even know what Dinty Moore meant when somebody from school asked about my soup. That said, despite Mom's best efforts, it was tough to get me to eat veggies and I rarely enjoyed fruit. I predominately ate meat and carbs. Even though my mother tried to limit my intake, soda was a daily beverage. I was never very active but wasn’t exactly lazy either. (*** click the link at the bottom of this post for a wonderful addition to this story, but for now ... keep reading***)
In June 2003 at 23 years old, I was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis, a rare Autoimmune disease. I struggled with reaching my feet and lifting my hands above my head due to severe connective tissue inflammation. My menstrual cycle was so irregular I at one point went 70 days between cycles. At 5’7″, I was 175 pounds, a SAD eater and struggling to find the strength to be an active person. I enjoyed dance, hiking and the occasional yoga class but I was far from routine and needed a lifestyle change. So I quit my corporate job, moved back home with mom and took my savings to see a Naturopathic Doctor. He put me on several herbal concoctions and a high protein, low carb diet. I avoided all things packaged and processed and completely stopped ALL sugar intake, including fruit. I was overridden with Candida from the inside out. I began losing weight quickly. I maintained this system steady for 3 months until I couldn’t afford it anymore. I had rid my body of all yeast overgrowth, walked around 20 pounds lighter, and started hiking and doing yoga regularly.
That Christmas I was in a horseback riding accident and broke my back in 4 places. I was bed ridden for several months wearing a lovely designer body brace (insert laugh here) and unable to continue my new found physical independence. During my recovery, I began reaching for comfort foods again. Due to the lack of physical movement and the foods I began eating, I gained 25 pounds and battled with the disease and Candida once more."

Hundreds of clients and students have come through Wellness by Mother Nature interested in relief for acute and chronic health concerns; weight management; dietary plans; Science-based classes on Eating for Healing; detox cleanses; recipes; homeopathic and herbal remedies; pregnancy and prenatal care; and more.
Throughout the years, I have worked to evolve my methods of coaching, motivating and teaching based upon the feedback, constructive criticism, and success stories of clients. WbMN has transformed from mere phone support to written health plans, coaching subscriptions and online classes; from a locals-only business to serving the world wide web with clients from several countries.
Recently, I have seen an increase in the number of clients coming to me after losing faith in the Western medical approach. They have often tried "everything else" so they come to me to get results. While it is progress to seek out the help of somebody new, what I really hope to convey here is that you must change the way you lived yesterday if you want different results than what yesterday brought you.
What I mean to say is... using my services will not include an office-visit appointment where you hear about what pills to take to stop feeling your symptoms instantly. There is no band-aid for 'dis' ease. When you come to WbMN, you will feel better - this is guaranteed - but we are going to work together to change your life using methods from Mother Nature. Navigating through Holistic Healthcare can be as challenging as watching a foreign movie - even with the subtitles on! Let me translate for you - translate both your symptoms, as well as the easiest journey to Restoring Wellness.
It is for these reasons that I am no longer offering office-style consultations with a 5-8 page written plan and resources. Instead, I am going to empower you and stick with you while we change your lifestyle together. The good news is that you likely won't need me afterwards because you will receive ALL YOU NEED to move forward with wellness. So instead of an hour and a half appointment with me, your coaching comes in an improved format! This new format includes weekly phone calls with me; group forum support from others going through the same program; website access with daily program material including handouts, videos and/or worksheets; Eating for Healing classes; and so much more. It's called Restoring Wellness, and it's available in January. We will still address your individual needs, but you'll also be altering your lifestyle at the same time. Without this change to your lifestyle, you will only need to come see me again in 4-6 weeks.
For example, if you needed homeopathic support for inflammation, I will still make that recommendation as I did before, but I will also teach you how and when to use homeopathics so you can easily reach for your next remedy yourself! It's all about empowerment with Restoring Wellness! Check out the info, flyer and website below and I hope to see you in the program!
The coaching you've been asking for is finally here!
Prior to creating this program, Coach Stephanie ran a survey asking hundreds of people what class subjects they'd like to see in the program, plus she surveyed what price people would pay for such powerful coaching. Not only has she included the top 5 Eating for Healing subjects, but the top 9, plus bonus mini-classes! And the best part is the price; receive this amazing coaching for as little as $5 per day!

Nothing seems more daunting than attending, or hosting, a dinner party when you have special dietary needs to consider. Few people elect to be this “picky,” as those with special dietary needs are often labeled. In fact, when health is their motivation, eating out of the home can cause anxiety and feelings of isolation. Having compassion for their choices, whether due to allergies, religion or personal preference, will not only assure they attend your party but having a dish in their honor will win their hearts over as well.

5 Tips to Appeal to Everyone at the Table
A vegetarian likes vegetables. For most health conscious vegetarians, there is no need to add textured vegetable protein or faux-meat products. Bring vegetable variety to the table and your vegetarian guest will be happy and full.

"I am here for support, guidance, education and as an example of what works for ME. What works for me may work for you or at least provide you with a starting point from which to explore. I am discovering what works for me at every moment. I don’t have it all figured out, but I do feel I have a teaching and healing nature with which I am here to share. In this blog, I offer you a view into my practice of being that which makes my experience - MINE."
Certified Holistic Health and Nutrition Practitioner, Stephanie Austin, was guided into holistic living in 2002 when she was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis, an uncommon autoimmune disease affecting the skin and muscle.
Opting for education rather than medication, Austin enrolled in a Holistic Health Practitioner program in 2004 after realizing she'd been gifted with disease so that she may learn to heal herself and later teach others to do the same.
Since her education, Austin has released over 60 pounds and conquered years of junk food addiction through holistic healing and nutrition techniques that she now passes onto others through her business, Wellness by Mother Nature.
Austin has been the Director of Education and Board Member for the nonprofit organization, The Wellness Kitchen. She is the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Graduate Award from www.ACHS.edu.
Austin is an author, coach and speaker who empowers people on the healing value of nutrition and the innate self-healing abilities of a body in balance.
She has helped hundreds of people achieve balance through methods such as meditation, herbs, movement, supplements, aromatherapy, homeopathy, nutrition, mind-body connection, energy healing and by closely listening to the needs of her clients.
It is awareness that brings change, not your effort. Why does it happen through awareness? - because the awareness changes you. And when you are different, the world is different. It is not a question of creating a different world, it is only a question of creating a different you. You are your world; so if you change, the world changes.
