"I wanted to share these pictures of my son who is away at college. He is almost 20 years old and an athlete. The first picture was taken last August. Our lives were in turmoil, his dad [see Franklin in testimonials] in the hospital, starting freshman year away from home, stressed and eating the standard American diet. Fast forward to mom [see Kristy in testimonials] and dad beginning Stephanie's program in January, and eventually he began eating the way we have learned to eat.
The picture on the right is from the beginning of his sophomore year. He eats as well as he can in his school cafeteria, but he has incorporated the following into his daily routine: pau d' arco tincture, systemic and digestive enzymes, aloe vera, chia and apple cider vinegar in his water. There's a class I teach at local churches and centers just for children on discovering a variety of healthy foods by their color and value.
There are coloring pages, songs, and fun ways to learn about nutrition. Is there a place you would like to see this class offered? I love to travel and teach. Local too!
It is best for ages 4-10 though younger members can still enjoy the coloring and songs too.
I am told by the last church that children still remember and discuss the nutritional value in the different colors of food.
In a client phone call from this past week, a program alumni who has re-enrolled in the 6-Week Restoring Wellness program told me how much benefit they experienced from the first time around and how they look forward to implementing new things, such as circadian rhythm eating, this time around.
This seems to be the consensus from those who re-enroll in the program - they discover things they never saw the first time or they are ready to implement a new idea or lesson that felt overwhelming the first time around.
The first time around, the idea of eating gluten-free, low-glycemic foods with zero food-like products was daunting enough for some. For those of you following the progress of my Restoring Wellness participants, I have an update from Franklin of Redwood City, CA that brought tears of joy to my eyes.
"The picture on the left is the last day Franklin ate gluten and sweet iced teas: at a burger joint in January the day before we started our first 10 day cleanse. The picture on the right was taken today (Aug 10,2014) after his workout. I am so proud of him! "Host lifestyle affects human microbiota on daily timescales"
Here, we link over 10,000 longitudinal measurements of human wellness and action to the daily gut and salivary microbiota dynamics of two individuals over the course of one year. These time series show overall microbial communities to be stable for months. However, rare events in each subjects’ life rapidly and broadly impacted microbiota dynamics.
Our findings suggest that although human-associated microbial communities are generally stable, they can be quickly and profoundly altered by common human actions and experiences.
My Restoring Wellness participants have gotten accustomed to me saying, "No product, pill, meal replacement shake, or diet will ever be sustainable or as effective as learning to incorporate holistic living and plant based eating." This image is a great example of this; you really must implement lifestyle change to receive results that are different than yesterday.
This is not to say that there isn't a place for therapeutic use of supplements, which better aid the restoring of the gut lining or help to balance the adrenals, for example. Same thing can be said about meal replacement shakes; they have their place too. However, you will not get skinny or obtain miracle healing by relying on them, and nothing will be sustainable if you do not implement change.

Certified Holistic Health and Nutrition Practitioner, Stephanie Austin, was guided into holistic living in 2002 when she was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis, an uncommon autoimmune disease affecting the skin and muscle.
