My mom is soon to have specialized surgery up at UCSF and she will be juicing thru the entire process. I'd like to share the journey with you to inspire and enlighten. Stay tuned!
Taste the rainbow.
There's a class I teach at local churches and centers just for children on discovering a variety of healthy foods by their color and value.
There are coloring pages, songs, and fun ways to learn about nutrition. Is there a place you would like to see this class offered? I love to travel and teach. Local too!
It is best for ages 4-10 though younger members can still enjoy the coloring and songs too.
I am told by the last church that children still remember and discuss the nutritional value in the different colors of food.
In a client phone call from this past week, a program alumni who has re-enrolled in the 6-Week Restoring Wellness program told me how much benefit they experienced from the first time around and how they look forward to implementing new things, such as circadian rhythm eating, this time around.
This seems to be the consensus from those who re-enroll in the program - they discover things they never saw the first time or they are ready to implement a new idea or lesson that felt overwhelming the first time around.
The first time around, the idea of eating gluten-free, low-glycemic foods with zero food-like products was daunting enough for some. Even some folks who have enrolled more than twice suggest that the second time was when they really read more about understanding homeopathy, how to make a natural first aid kit or why tinctures work so quickly. Many alumni are still trying some of the recipes for the first time, as there are many to choose from.
The next enrollment begins October 11th. Check out the September Newsletter for Early Bird Enrollment specials. Returning alumni get 50% off.

For those of you following the progress of my Restoring Wellness participants, I have an update from Franklin of Redwood City, CA that brought tears of joy to my eyes.
"The picture on the left is the last day Franklin ate gluten and sweet iced teas: at a burger joint in January the day before we started our first 10 day cleanse. The picture on the right was taken today (Aug 10,2014) after his workout. I am so proud of him! Not only continuing to recover from his illness, but his drive and dedication to use food as his medicine and heal his body for himself and our family Thank you Stephanie for creating this amazing program!" _ from his wife, Kristy
She adds: "In the first picture, he was unable to hold his arms up and he needed to swing them to get them to stay up for a few seconds. Now, he can hold them up and flex his arms. "
Furthermore, in the photo on the left, he was wearing sized 2X shirts and on the right, his son's size L.
"Working with Coach Stephanie has taught us how to eat better and use nutrition for healing. You've seen how it's helped transform [Franklin], I've lost 31 lbs, our son Alex has changed his nutrition even while in college and even Cassie [8 years old] eats better than before. You don't realize how good your body is designed to feel! Coach Stephanie is coming to Redwood City to teach a class on Monday, August 18. Details to follow!" writes Kristy, Franklin's wife, on Facebook.
Their journey is incredible - I highly recommend you read about them on the Testimonials page: http://restoringwellness.wellnessbymothernature.com/testimonials.html
In honor of #tbt, (throwback Thursday) I thought I'd share a story...
I grew up in your typical Standard American Diet (SAD) home eating some of the best American comfort food and spending my allowance on junk food, donuts and soda. Now, don't get my wrong, Mom made everything from scratch, including bread, biscuits, gravy, home-raised pork, chickens, eggs and the works. I didn't even know what Dinty Moore meant when somebody from school asked about my soup. That said, despite Mom's best efforts, it was tough to get me to eat veggies and I rarely enjoyed fruit. I predominately ate BBQ'd meat and carbs. Even though my mother tried to limit my intake, soda was a daily beverage. I was never very active but wasn’t exactly lazy either.
In June 2003 at 23 years old, I was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis, a rare Autoimmune disease. I struggled with reaching my feet and lifting my hands above my head due to severe connective tissue inflammation. My menstrual cycle was so irregular I at one point went 70 days between cycles. At 5’7″, I was 175 pounds, a SAD eater and struggling to find the strength to be an active person. I enjoyed dance, hiking and the occasional yoga class but I was far from routine and needed a lifestyle change. So I quit my corporate job, moved back home with mom and took my savings to see a Naturopathic Doctor. He put me on several herbal concoctions and a high protein, low carb diet. I avoided all things packaged and processed and completely stopped ALL sugar intake, including fruit. I was overridden with Candida from the inside out. I began losing weight quickly. I maintained this system steady for 3 months until I couldn’t afford it anymore. I had rid my body of all yeast overgrowth, walked around 20 pounds lighter, and started hiking and doing yoga regularly.
That Christmas I was in a horseback riding accident and broke my back in 4 places. I was bed ridden for quite some time, wearing a lovely designer body brace (insert laugh here) and unable to continue my new found physical independence. During my recovery, I began reaching for comfort foods again. Due to the lack of physical movement and the foods I began eating, I gained 25 pounds and battled with the disease and Candida once more.
I realized that I couldn't afford to continue like this so I pursued an education in Holistic Medicine. I started regular juice fasting, and went vegetarian within the first 6 months. Now, I coach people through their own journey to Restoring Wellness through www.WellnessByMotherNature.com.
I now walk around 60-70 pounds lighter than my max (199lbs), still routinely juice fast and eat vegetarian. I've journeyed from a predominately meat eating person to raw vegan and now, intuitive vegetarian, as I call it.
People routinely tell me that they CAN'T do it. They have to cook for a husband or children... or they have to do it alone. They see my figure now and assume I've always been this size or that I grew up eating this way. They say, "I can't do that because I love food too much."
"If you argue for your limitations, you get to keep them." In each and every day - every moment - you have the opportunity to RECREATE yourSELF in the ways that you dream. See yourself as an athlete? - become one! See yourself thin? - do it. See yourself healthy? - FEEL IT and BECOME IT.
To those who say they CAN'T, I write this bio and other articles published in magazines on how to deal with a unique dietary lifestyle when others do not understand it. I cooked for my partner at the time - breakfast, lunch and dinners - while fasting. If I can do it - somebody who also LOVES food - you can do it too.
One thing you will face; however, are people who do not understand, who judge, who pity, who don't want to be around you, and those who are jealous of your strength. The key in this is 1) Do not preach to them about their choices; 2) Do not pity yourself for your choices; 3) Realize it is your STRENGTH - not any weakness - that helps you live this way and that this is YOUR life you're living afterall.
One mother wrote me with a description of how she tried her best to raise her daughter, who also has an autoimmune disease. It is a bit long but I highly recommend you read through to the end. She writes:
I know your story is important for people to open up and see you are just like everyone else. We all have a story. We all have a beginning, which affected where we find ourselves today. I've sat in your classes in the past and wondered if people are looking at my weight and asking themselves about "the unhealthy lady" in the front row. Granted, I'm taking the steps to get healthier and perhaps being the underdog inspires others. But I digress... I wanted to share with you how my story would read from the other side - as the mother of a child with an autoimmune disease. It is a little bit different than yours.

Wellness by Mother Nature - Stephanie Austin, HHP
Despite having created it from my own lifestyle and from my deepest passion (holistic living), I'm constantly blown away with the results from the Restoring Wellness program. Yes, I knew these methods that I teach work; however, to see them in action with various different people (body types, ailments, lifestyles, etc) is a huge reward that has exceeded my expectations.
Just look at some of the testimonials:
"Day 17 (day 8 of the cleanse) this has been such a challenging yet rewarding journey (and this is just the beginning)! I am so excited to say that I have been forgetting to take my Advil (which I take religiously everyday), lost 22.4 lbs and I feel great"
"I stopped taking my medication because I wanted to see how this way of eating affected my glucose levels. Normally, in the morning my fasting sugar ranges from 145 to 160. The last few days my glucose readings have definitely changed. One morning it was 142, next morning 125, next 123, then this morning - 102!"
"This material was customized to our personal needs in group and individual phone calls."
"The Restoring Wellness program taught me a lot of new healthy ways. I used to call my body puffy, now I learned that it is really called inflammation and I learned about what causes inflammation. My inflammation has gone done and I've lost about 10 pounds."
"On this eve before the beginning of Restoring Wellness cohort #2, I am like a giddy schoolgirl! I think I'm 20x more excited than the last time, because I've been through the program and am fortunate to be going through it again, this time with 12 of my family and friends!”
“This has been the BEST experience! I highly recommend this program, no matter what your background, health concerns, food preferences, or biases. My husband and I have experienced life changing moments and will continue to follow Coach Stephanie's advice and guidance long after the conclusion of the program. Eternal thanks!!"
"With every lesson you send, my nutrition knowledge seems to leap forward to areas never before explored! With the dietary changes you've prompted, I’m feeling so much better. I’m no longer classified as “diabetic” nor do I have acid indigestion problems. My brain is working 100 mph – my memory is sharpening - I leave bed in the middle of the night to write short stories, which I haven’t done in years. You’re an amazing mentor – you’ve changed my life for the better so much!"
Read even more here. The next program starts May 3rd. Register early for $50 off. The last session filled up the week before the program started so enroll today! Read more about the program here.
Some form of movement usually follows, such as yoga, rebounding or stretching.
When I have a sweet tooth or desire a change, I'll have a chia porridge - either on it's own or with added quinoa (or even a quinoa porridge with added chia). I usually add maca, bee pollen, goji berries and/or blue berries, and ashwagandha. Sometimes I'll add chopped apple and pecans too.
Some of the participants from the 6-week Restoring Wellness program asked about 'A day in the life of Stephanie,' so here goes. Granted, I have my cycles of 'doing awesome' and being 'less disciplined' as does everybody else (I'll bold the 'doing awesome,' yet not everyday tasks), this is at least an idea of my routine.
It was a challenge to write all of this down because sometimes I do something, such as add chia seeds to my daily lemon water, without thinking of it as a 'gesture' to be written down. Nonetheless, below is a sample day.... Click on the images to view larger versions.
Depending on the day, I may have client calls or classes to teach first thing. After which, I'd make some breakfast, which varies on design but is almost always veggie-based. I usually eat breakfast between 8am and 9am after exercise and getting ready for the day. On days I have to be away of my home office, I'll eat between 7am and 8am. Here are some sample breakfasts.
Coaching calls and/or classes continue throughout the day, 7 days a week. In between that, I'm updating my program, reading new material for the program, working on my book, marketing, etc. I love being self-employed but it often means being busier than most.
I strive to be in bed by 9pm so I can be solidly sleeping by 10pm. Sometimes, but not as often as I aspire, I'll meditate before bed after a little stretching.
If I think of more to add, I will... but this is a glimpse into my daily routine and meals.

"The coolest part for me (ok there are many) is that YOU are here to coach and support us. Not just give us the information and expect that we absorb it and implement it all. You are invested in our lifestyle change. THAT is awesome to me. Sometimes I need to ask questions and discuss things you've presented for it to make sense. That extra step you're providing, the personal coaching, is what makes the difference."
"I've come to the realization that I will likely never go back to the way I used to eat. Even just a few days into this, I realize what poor choices I have always made and it's this awareness that fosters long term change. I still miss certain things and may not give them up forever, but the foundation of how I used to eat has been obliterated and many new habits have already been formed. Super exciting!! Thank you Stephanie!"
This blog is on the many avenues that interest Coach Stephanie. Subjects are a vast array of hobbies, career, desires, coaching and lifestyle.
"I am here for support, guidance, education and as an example of what works for ME. What works for me may work for you or at least provide you with a starting point from which to explore. I am discovering what works for me at every moment. I don’t have it all figured out, but I do feel I have a teaching and healing nature with which I am here to share. In this blog, I offer you a view into my practice of being that which makes my experience - MINE."
Certified Holistic Health and Nutrition Practitioner, Stephanie Austin, was guided into holistic living in 2002 when she was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis, an uncommon autoimmune disease affecting the skin and muscle.
Opting for education rather than medication, Austin enrolled in a Holistic Health Practitioner program in 2004 after realizing she'd been gifted with disease so that she may learn to heal herself and later teach others to do the same.
Since her education, Austin has released over 60 pounds and conquered years of junk food addiction through holistic healing and nutrition techniques that she now passes onto others through her business, Wellness by Mother Nature.
Austin has been the Director of Education and Board Member for the nonprofit organization, The Wellness Kitchen. She is the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Graduate Award from www.ACHS.edu.
Austin is an author, coach and speaker who empowers people on the healing value of nutrition and the innate self-healing abilities of a body in balance.
She has helped hundreds of people achieve balance through methods such as meditation, herbs, movement, supplements, aromatherapy, homeopathy, nutrition, mind-body connection, energy healing and by closely listening to the needs of her clients.
It is awareness that brings change, not your effort. Why does it happen through awareness? - because the awareness changes you. And when you are different, the world is different. It is not a question of creating a different world, it is only a question of creating a different you. You are your world; so if you change, the world changes.
